Nicknames for cities

I just finished listening to the podcast that referenced nicknames for cities. My freshman English teacher at Rice University in 1967-68 happened to be Larry McMurtry (sorry; couldn't resist the namedropping), and he wrote once that, "If Ft. Worth is 'where the west begins,' then that must mean that Dallas is 'where the east peters out'."

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.
