I just finished listening to the podcast that referenced nicknames for cities. My freshman English teacher at Rice University in 1967-68 happened to be Larry McMurtry (sorry; couldn’t resist the namedropping), and he wrote once that, “If Ft. Worth is ‘where the west begins,’ then that must mean that Dallas is ‘where the east peters out’.”
