When I was growing up in San Diego, my mom used to say, “Sunday’s longer than Monday” to indicate that my slip was in need of adjusting. My mom is from Arkansas and grew up there in the rural parts in the mid-1930s-40s. She said that this was a commonly used phrase when she was a child. It was generally used on Sundays, when ladies and girls wore dresses with slips underneath to church.

It’s just one of those things parents have a habbit of saying and kids take literally leaving them thinking …huh?? I remember my Mum frequently telling me when I was tearing round the garden or up a tree that if I fell and broke both my legs not to go running to her. She also used to tell me that if the wind changed while I was pulling a face I’d stick like that.. untill the day we were walking along a beach when someone with an unfortunate deformity walked past and I innocently enquired at the top of my voice “Was he doing that when the wind changed?” funny thing.. she never said it again ..parents huh? (BTW guys… fan-tas-tic show ..you have a massive fan over here in the UK!)

I grew up in southern America and my mom used to refer to a slip peeking out from a hemline as “It is snowing down south.”

In German it was “You’re/she’s having a lightning storm”.
