jet unit

jet unit
n.— «Some Democrats in Juneau are apparently coming up with new vocabulary. “Jet units” has been suggested as an alternative to “dollars”—specifically $1.5 million—when discussing expenditures. The new vocab comes as a nod to “the governor’s never ending efforts to spend $1.5 million on a state jet,” according to an email in Flashlight’s inbox. If the new term were adopted, a $4.5 million budget increase would be referred to as an increase of “three jet units.”» —“Better than metric?” by Lynne Snifka Anchorage Press (Alaska) Mar. 16, 2005.
