method costumier
n.— «The competition for the Best Costume Oscar is as fierce as in any of the acting categories. One of the 13 nominations achieved by The Curious Case of Benjamin Button went to Jacqueline West, who is known in Hollywood as a “method costumier.” Just as a method actor builds a character from the inside, so West insists on reading the script six or seven times to get familiar with the characters. Only then will she sign on for the production. “When you really get to know these characters, they almost dress themselves,” says West. “I f you don’t know them, you won’t do it right.”» —“Buttoning up” by Sandra Barrera The Times (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa) Feb. 22, 2009.
