minigarch

minigarch
n.Gloss: n. a powerful person who is rich but not extravagantly so. Note: From mini ‘small’ plus -garch from a misdivision of oligarch, which comes from the Greek oligoi ‘few’ and arkhein ‘to rule.’ «One man bought everything. We call him a minigarch (as opposed to an oligarch) because his annual income is only $50m ( £25.3m).» —“Entire Hirst exhibition is snapped up by ‘minigarch’” by Andrew Osborn in Moscow Independent (United Kingdom) Dec. 6, 2006.
